Blender gets most of the free-tool attention, but Unreal Engine 5 has quietly built up a serious library of free plugins and packs, especially for stylized combat and animation. Here are the ones worth installing.

Dynamic OverAnimation — cartoon physics at runtime
Dynamic OverAnimation is a free real-time mesh deformer that brings classic 2D animation principles into UE5: smear, squash and stretch, mesh bulge, spring-physics secondary motion and bone scaling. Attach a component, assign a deformer asset, and you get exaggerated stylized motion without custom shaders or complex rig work.
Impact Frames — why anime hits land
The difference between a hit that feels good and one that feels like nothing is usually about three frames long. Impact Frames brings the brief stylized flash on contact into UE5, with post-process frames, ready-made sequences and an animation notify state to control them inline. Combat feel is mostly timing, not particles, and most projects get that ratio backwards.
Niagara VFX Starter Pack
If you are learning Niagara rather than buying effects, the Niagara VFX Starter Pack gives you working systems to open, study and adapt.
Odyssey — a toolset that used to cost a fortune
Odyssey by Praxinos covers 2D animation, storyboarding and 3D texturing, and it was made free after previously being priced in the four figures. Free for commercial use too.
Worth knowing
Pause almost any action game at the exact moment of contact and you will find a held pose, a colour inversion or a shape distortion sitting there for a few frames. That is the trick these tools automate. Browse them in the 3DxDEV Library.
