SnapMove — Precise Move & Rotate for Blender

SnapMove is a free Blender add-on that speeds up positioning and orienting objects — pick a point on a surface and move or rotate relative to it, instead of typing values or diving into Edit Mode.

The Problem With Blender Placement

Placing an object flat against an angled surface is unreasonably awkward in stock Blender. The usual routes are snapping with face-snap and align-rotation enabled, moving the origin, using the 3D cursor as a pivot, or eyeballing it and fixing later.

All of them work. All of them involve more setup than the operation deserves — and you repeat it dozens of times while dressing a scene.

What It Changes

You define the reference point on a surface and transform against it directly. No origin shuffling, no cursor management, no mode switching.

Where It Earns Time

  • Set dressing — props on shelves, tables, uneven ground
  • Kitbashing — aligning parts against angled surfaces
  • Hard-surface detailing — placing panels, bolts and greebles flush
  • Architectural assembly — fittings against walls and slopes

Worth Knowing First

Before blaming placement tools, check your object origins. An object whose origin sits far from its geometry will behave strangely with any snapping method — that is an origin problem, not a tool problem.

Apply transforms with Ctrl+A too. Unapplied rotation and scale cause placement oddities that are genuinely hard to diagnose afterwards.

These small workflow add-ons rarely feel impressive in a demo, and they are the ones you miss most when working on a machine without them.
