A free Blender add-on from Kito Studio that adds clean, customisable outlines to your scenes — the shortcut to stylised, toon and non-photorealistic looks without hand-building a compositor setup.
Why Outlines Are Harder Than They Look
Every stylised render needs outlines, and Blender offers about four ways to get them, all with drawbacks.
Freestyle is built in and produces excellent lines, but it is Cycles-only, slow, and does not preview in the viewport. Inverted hull — a duplicated mesh with flipped normals and backface culling — is fast and EEVEE-friendly, but it duplicates geometry and breaks on hard edges. Compositor edge detection works from depth and normal passes, but building the node tree is genuinely fiddly. Grease Pencil line art is powerful and a workflow in itself.
None of them is simply “turn on outlines,” which is what most people want.
What an Outline Add-on Solves
It packages one of those approaches with controls, so you get adjustable line weight and colour without assembling the setup yourself. For anyone doing stylised work regularly, that removes a repeated chore.
Getting Good Lines
Two things matter more than the tool. First, consistent line weight — lines that thin and thicken with distance can look great, but only deliberately; accidental variation reads as an error. Second, your normals: outline width often depends on surface normals, so a model with distorted normals produces wobbly outlines no matter what settings you use.
That second point catches a lot of people. If your outlines are inconsistent, see Easy Custom Normals before blaming the outline tool.
