A free Blender tool for generating stylised fantasy trees in seconds — aimed at vibrant, illustrative environments rather than botanical realism.
Why Stylised Trees Are Their Own Problem
Most tree generators optimise for realism: accurate branching, individual leaves, physically plausible growth. That is the wrong target for stylised work.
A stylised tree needs a strong silhouette, simplified foliage masses, and shapes that read clearly at a distance. Feed a photoreal generator into a stylised scene and it looks imported from a different project — too much detail, wrong visual language.
Tools built for the stylised look start from that constraint instead of fighting it.
What It Is Good For
- Stylised and fantasy environments — the intended use
- Game environments where trees are background mass, not hero assets
- Illustration and diorama work
- Rapid scene filling — generating variation quickly so a forest does not look cloned
Using It Well
Vary the parameters between instances. The fastest way to make generated foliage look generated is to scatter the same tree fifty times. Generate several distinct trees, then scatter with random rotation and scale.
Also check your polygon budget before scattering. Generators produce geometry cheerfully, and a forest of unoptimised trees will bring a viewport to a halt — see our guide to optimising models for games.
Alternatives
Blender's built-in Sapling Tree Gen add-on is free and already installed, though it targets realistic trees and takes patience to tune. The Grove and Botaniq are paid options aimed at realism — see our Botaniq guide for that end of the market.
For free CC0 vegetation assets, Poly Haven and ambientCG are catalogued in our resources directory.
