Home Builder 5

Home Builder 5 turns Blender into a parametric interior design tool. Instead of modelling cabinets as geometry you push around by hand, you draw the room, drop in cabinet and appliance products, and let the add-on resize, snap and rebuild them as the space changes. It is aimed squarely at kitchen, bathroom and closet work — the jobs where the deliverable is a measured, buildable layout rather than a beauty render.

What It Does

  • Draw rooms with floors, ceilings and lighting, then place doors and windows that cut their own wall openings
  • Place cabinets and appliances that snap to walls and hold their proportions when dimensions change
  • Configure cabinet interiors, toe kick styles and top construction per product instead of per mesh
  • Build stairs whose step count recalculates from the rise you set
  • Generate elevations, floor plans and annotated multi-view sheets from the same scene, and export them to PDF
  • Trace an existing plan using the built-in reference image panel
  • Assign procedural materials at style level, so one change propagates across every matching product

Good To Know

  • Free and open source under GPL-3.0-or-later, maintained by AndrewPeel
  • Requires Blender 5.0 or newer — it will not install on the 4.x series
  • 24 MB download, with builds for Windows (x64 and ARM64), macOS (Intel and Apple Silicon) and Linux
  • Requests file access because it saves project files and writes layout PDFs
  • 34,700+ downloads on Blender Extensions, rated 5.0 from 20 reviews

Where It Fits

If your work ends in a client-facing layout sheet rather than a render, this is the closest Blender gets to a dedicated interior design package. The elevation and PDF export is the part most CAD-adjacent workflows normally have to leave Blender for, and having it in the same scene as the cabinets is the reason to pick this over modelling the kitchen yourself.
