Tractive is an AI-assisted retopology app built by Mohsan Alvi, a computer-vision PhD from Oxford’s VGG group. Its pitch is narrow and specific: make retopology fast without taking the creative decisions away from you.

The Interesting Idea
Most auto-retopology is a black box. You set a quad target, press go, and accept or reject what comes out. Tractive inverts that. You draw a loop, move a boundary, or stitch two regions together, and the quads recalculate and reconcile themselves around your decision.
The developer frames it as being closer to ZBrush’s ZRemesher guides, but stricter — with real control over where edge loops sit and how they feed into each other. No committing to a quad count up front, no counting edges so loops meet cleanly.
That distinction matters, because retopology is not really a geometry problem. It is a deformation problem. Where loops sit around a mouth, an elbow or a shoulder determines whether a character survives being rigged.

What Is Not Known
Being straight about this: there is no public release, no published pricing and no platform detail. Early access opened to a small number of artists in mid-2026 and demand exceeded capacity almost immediately, so it moved to a waitlist.
Nor has the developer explained how the algorithm works, how it differs technically from existing solutions, or which parts of the tool are genuinely AI rather than good conventional geometry processing. That is worth holding in mind when reading any coverage of it, including ours.
One detail that is reassuring for studio use: the team has stated it does not collect model data unless you opt in per model.
Worth Joining the Waitlist?
